Bento

My dear friend Shannon introduced me to Bentoing (is that even a word).

Bentō (弁当 or べんとう?) is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento consists of rice, fish meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables as a side dish. Containers range from disposable mass produced to hand crafted lacquerware. Although bento are easily available in many places throughout Japan, including convenience stores, bento shops, train stations , and department stores, it is still common for Japanese homemakers  to spend considerable time and energy producing an appealing boxed lunch.

I am totally into this. It has made me reevaluate what I feed my kids. Their lunches aren't perfect, but much healthier then they would be if I just shoved preprocessed stuff into brown bags.

So here is the one I sent with J to her Webkinz Workshop yesterday.

Turkey and Cheese sandwiches shaped like Tulips, string cheese, pretzels, dried cranberries, some 100 Calorie cookie snack bites, and a Danimals yogurt drink.
